Living With HIV




It has been a known fact till date that the HIV is spreading like an epidemic all over the world and moreover no treatment for the same has been discovered as of yet. Also in many nations and continents, an HIV infected individual is discriminated and looked down upon. So, all over the world people are being taught about living with HIV, the most dreaded virus of all times. Most of the HIV individuals the world over have made themselves habitual to living with HIV, but still in some developing and underdeveloped nations of the world the scenario has not been the same. In countries like India, sub Saharan region, still an HIV patient is subjected to humiliations and disrespect. So, people in these regions should also be taught various methods which they should adopt and start living their usual lives, i.e. the life which they lead before the HIV infection.

The various steps have been taken by the government and the non government organizations which help HIV positive individuals and teach them the methods of living with HIV are:

Awareness programmes are being taken up in schools, colleges and other institutes:
These programmes aim in reducing the stigma and discrimination believed to be associated with HIV. They also help in educating people about the various steps which should be taken to avoid the infection from spreading and if in case, the infection occurs then how should the treatment be taken for the same. Also, they teach HIV infected individuals about the ways one should deal with the HIV infection and make them understand the need for living with HIV rather than being depressed about it.

Counseling sessions are taken up in hospitals:
The various hospitals all over the world have a specialized counseling cell which motivates the HIV infected individuals about the importance of starting living with HIV rather than being depressed and demotivated about the same. After an individual is tested with HIV, then he/she is first of all kept under the guidance of a counselor who helps them to overcome the mental anxiety and tension caused due to the HIV infection.

With the help of media:
Media acts as an important tool which helps the HIV infected individuals by showing them the way of living with HIV .With the help of various advertisements, announcements and other information which is available on television, newspapers or on the internet one can come to know a great deal about the various treatments and other important facts about HIV.

Apart from the above stated methods the most important factor which can help an HIV infected individual to live a stress free life is the support, love and care of one’s loved ones.

Thus, the HIV infected individuals should not consider that being HIV positive means the end of life. They should not panic and depress themselves. Rather, they should accept the truth and undergo the various medications in order to protect the infection from further spreading and also should try that the infection doesn’t spread to others and also try to live a normal life which has no place for worries pertaining to the HIV
