HIV statistics may be defined as the record of the HIV infection worldwide which helps us to track the HIV epidemic and also conclude as to where the extent of the infection is greater and accordingly where the maximum prevention work needs to be carried out. HIV statistics of the year 2007 may be given as:
- It was estimated that during that during this year 33.0 million were infected with the HIV. The range varied from 30.3 to 36.1million.
- The adults living with HIV are estimated to be around 30.8 million
- Out of the same the women infected with HIV are estimated to be around 15.5 million whereas the estimates for children are around 2.0 millions.
- Out of the newly infected people the estimates are that around 2.7 million were infected whereas for children it was around 0.37 million.
- At the end of 2007, women accounted for 50% of all adults living with HIV worldwide, and for 59% in sub-Saharan Africa

- Since 1981, the death toll due to HIV has been around 25 million.
- In Africa there are maximum number of children affected i.e., around 11.6 million have been affected.
- The youth which is under the 25 year age group is most affected with recent HIV infections.
