HIV Education

The HIV is spreading like an epidemic all over the world. The number of HIV infected individuals is increasing to a large extent and the need of the hour is to keep a check on the ever increasing HIV infection all over the world. Thus, in this case, HIV education becomes an important tool to control this epidemic. The main purpose of spreading HIV education is to eradicate the unawareness about the virus. The HIV education should be spread keeping in mind every member of the society be it the youth or the older generations.

The major reasons for spreading HIV education are:

To prevent new infections from occurring:

If an individual is aware and educated about the causes and the problems caused due to HIV, then the chances of transmission of infection are reduced to a greater extent as people will come to know as to how the infection is caused and will take into account the factors which cause the infection i.e. they will take precautions for the same like the use of condoms, using sterilized needles etc.

To make the life of HIV positive patients better:

HIV education plays an important role in this respect. The education at this stage is to prevent HIV from further spreading as if the infected person knows that he is HIV positive so he/she will make efforts that the infection doesn’t spread to others. Also, the HIV education teaches one to be aware of the medications available so that they can prevent themselves from the opportunistic infections.

To reduce the misconceptions, existing with reference to an HIV positive individual:

In many nations an HIV infected individual is looked down upon and the fear associated with the same is transformed into depression and other mental disorders. Also, there are many other disbeliefs about the spread of the infection. It is only the HIV education which can solve this purpose and make people aware about the causes and reasons for the HIV infection.

The HIV education should be imparted to the youth of the nation so that HIV is prevented from spreading and also to the HIV positive individuals so that they learn to live a normal life and also to others so that they understand that an HIV infected individual needs their sympathy not their discrimination.

The ways and means to spread HIV education in a country, community or a continent are:

With the help of media:

Media plays an important role in spreading HIV education .The televisison, radio, newspaper are the means to spread awareness against the HIV. As these means approach the masses directly so are considered an important tool in promoting HIV education.

By conducting various awareness programmes in schools, colleges and other institutions:

HIV education can also be imparted to school students or college students with the help of various programmes which are conducted for the same. In these programmes students and the youth are taught how to protect themselves against the HIV infection and also the ways to treat any HIV infected individuals.

Thus, HIV education forms an important tool to spread the message that HIV can be only prevented and various means should be used for the same and also the fact that an HIV infected individual should be seen with respect and dignity.
